"Jess’ favourite things are being playful with her family, experiencing nature, and moving her body. Jess will never need a second invitation to dance around the kitchen."

Dr Jess Baker

Clinical Psychologist

PhD, MPsych (Clinical), BSc Psych (Hons I), MAPS

Jess is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association. She holds a PhD in Psychology, a Masters in Clinical Psychology, and a Bachelor degree with Honours in Psychology. Jess has a background in research. She is a Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales and continues to write science articles within the University of Sydney. Jess has worked across public, private and volunteer sectors including the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), and older adult teams. For several years, Jess ran a community support group for adults with OCD and their families.

Jess is a dedicated and caring psychologist, who respects the trust placed in her by her clients. She is engaging and easy to talk to. She listens without judgment and helps people feel at ease. Jess aims to provide a safe and understanding space for clients to gain greater self-awareness, identify and meet their needs, reduce distress, build a more positive view of themselves, and develop healthier ways of thinking, behaving, and relating to others. Jess works with families to help parents feel closer to, and better understand and support, their child or teen impacted by emotional or behavioural issues. Jess supports adults to process and work through trauma, loss, life changes, relationship difficulties, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and physical illness.

Jess practices alongside her clients in a way that (hopefully) makes sense to them, and fits with their strengths and values. Jess’ practice is founded in cognitive-behavioural and schema therapies. It is also closely informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), family systems, Circle of Security principles, and compassion-focused frameworks, along with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Jess brings an appreciation of cultural diversity to her work and has a personal interest in sports psychology too.

Jess’ favourite things are being playful with her family, experiencing nature, and moving her body. Jess will never need a second invitation to dance around the kitchen.
